CAF unveils match officials for WAFCON 2024

The Confederation of African Football, CAF, has announced match officials for the 2024 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON).

A total of 46 referees, assistant referees and video assistant referees (VAR) will be part of the competition.

It is the highest number in the history of the biennial competition.

DAILY POST recalls that 40 officials took part in the 2022 edition of the prestigious tournament.

Yemisi Eunice Akintoye is the only Nigerian on the shortlist for Morocco 2024.

Akintoye, a centre referee, has officiated in the CAF Women’s Champions League, WAFU B Women’s Champions League and WAFU B U-20 Championship in the past.

The WAFCON 2024 finals will be staged in Morocco from Saturday, 5 July to Saturday, 26 July, 2025.

The Super Falcons of Nigeria are among the 12 teams that will compete at the competition.

Justine Madugu’s side are drawn in Group B with Tunisia, Botswana and Algeria.
